 1. I am...
Living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Born in 1967.
My handle, "Just Johnny", is actually a quote from the film "Johnny
Mnemonic" (based on the Cyperpunk short-story by William Gibson). I
chose it mainly because my first name really is "Johnny" and my last name is unpronounceable to most people, but also in part because I
have a pretty good memory :-)
I've spent a fair share of my youth running around in the arcades, and
not unexpectedly I feel that the best arcade games were made in that
period - that is 1980-1985.
It's always a real joy for me to see these games come to life again
in MAME.
My High-Score TLA (three-letter-acronym) has been "AXE" for the last
twenty years, chosen mainly because it can be entered speedily on most
arcade machines - allowing me to get quickly on to my next game.
(Oh, and I'm also the guy currently keeping the
alt.games.mame FAQ)
2. I got into MAME...
Ah well, it's the usual story...
Boy meets Emulator, Boy installs Emulator, Boy upgrades Computer, Boy
plays Arcade Games happily ever after...
3. I love playing...
Classic Shoot 'em ups, mostly. But my favourite games are...
Xevious - if I had to settle for a single game, this would be it.
Elegantly simple gameplay and graphics, but surprisingly addictive.
Time Pilot '84 - a most relaxing shooter. Just focus entirely on the
game and "let go of your conscious self and act on instinct" (to quote
old Obi-Wan) and a 250000+ score seems to appear as if by magic :-)
Bomb Jack - yet again, a game that demonstrates what a good arcade
game should be: easy to play, yet hard to master.
4. I would like to say to Nicola and the MAME team...
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank
You, Thank You, Thank You, Moon Shuttle, Thank You, Thank You , Thank
You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You,
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
(That is my top-25 arcade games list, with a "Thank You" for every
game that is emulated in MAME :-)
